Hand-Lettering for Home Decor
In search of Spring Break...
It’s not like I wasn’t already looking forward to spring break…But, since it’s so close, I can taste it, I’m getting a little more impatient.
I’m so ready to count sheep like nobody’s business!
But, we have three more days to go. So, in the meantime, I’ve been working on my homepage and contemplating some new sentiments.
I was given some sentiments to work with a couple weeks ago, and while I have yet to do one verbatim, this one spoke to me because I have been spending so much time at my second home…
Yup. You guessed it! That’s my classroom. Nobody’s getting any sleep there! 😂
The students are making some great end-of-year projects and it’s pretty exciting to see what they are coming up with…In fact, by the looks of the art room at the end of every day, you can’t tell me this won’t be the show to end all shows. But, it’s the time of year when it feels like work is a bit of a revolving door. No sooner do we leave that we blink and are right back at it again the next day.
That has to be broken up somehow.
We chunk things together for students to process all the information they take in all the time…The same has to be done for adults. And spring break is a nice chunk to just get a breather before getting back for the last leg of the school year.
I, for one, plan to do most of my travel in bed or on my sofa, which equates to the fact that I’ll be surfing the web in between catching some z’s.
In honor of that, I decided a “home” sentiment involving sleep would be appropriate. Here’s what I came up with:
I couldn’t quite settle on the earlier sketches because I felt like I couldn’t enjoy the stars in the background….Or the sentiment was a little too mature for a man-in-the-moon face for my taste.
At the end of the day, the last iteration with the bars that remind me of the decorative rails around a home-like you might find in the railing of a porch , felt much better to me visually.
Either that’s entirely logical, or it’s the ramblings of a mind in dire need of a break…
…a spring break to be clear.
