Teacher Time: Wishing Good Luck to Students in the Time of COVID

Eighth grade was my favorite year, by far.

Before that, school sucked. After that, school sucked. But eighth grade was the year where I felt like I belonged, and I had so much fun within that! I think every child should have the best eighth grade year possible.

In some ways, all this crazy has cancelled that for my eighth grade students. They don’t get their Field Day. For many, that’s the last day where it’s okay to have fun and act like a little kid in front of their peers. They had their dance formal inside of a grid. They will not be able to enjoy a typical graduation ceremony because theirs will be in a car line (which is a step up from those who will only have their name called in Zoom).

But, in other ways, I suppose they get better than even what I did…They get to spend a lot of time these days with loved ones and that’s a good thing.

I won’t get to see my eighth graders up close and personal for a while. So, in our last Listen & Draw session of the school year, I made this for them.

Best of luck in high school to them. I hope to see them again under much better circumstances.
