Father’s Day 2021

Mom making art…characters welcome.

It’s just one of the perils of being a mom that makes. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time making in my space. But, that’s typically in the evening hours. I’ve learned, if you want to get anything done during the daylight hours, and you’re fresh out of nannies, you may have to work around the natives.

There’s just no way to surprise people when they like to be around you. 😂

Besides that, my husband is the curious type. He won’t stop trying to see what I’m doing-especially if he thinks I’m hiding something. God love him…He just doesn’t know…I can have all kinds of fun with that! 😈

But when I’m really trying to make him something without his knowledge, if he’s in the house, it’s typically a no-go. He be all up in my business.

Either way, this was a great excuse to use my new Cricut machine!

This stand is getting crowded! But, I decided to get a Cricut Maker 3 because I love the Cricut Joy so much. It arrived today. Technically, I could’ve done this on the Joy or even the Explore Air 2. But, I figured, what the hay?

I chose the Maker 3 because, one, it can cut more materials than the Explore (that may come in handy some day)…and, two, they can work with Smart Vinyl on larger projects than the Joy, which is the best part for me. That means there are projects that I can do that won’t require a mat.

I love Cricut projects. But those mats are all kinds of sticky. The matless projects will probably be my bffs!

For this project, I drew a sketch in my sketchbook, as quickly and as (ahem) privately as I could.

I transferred it to my iPad to trace. See a Reelized version of the process in my Story below.

After cutting the design with the Cricut Maker 3, I weeded it, and used some transfer tape to adhere it to the tumbler with a scraper.

Easy peasy, although that last part was just a little trickier than the rest. Since a tumbler like the one I chose tapers and turns, it’s difficult to get the vinyl to lay flat without wrinkling if you don’t make some adjustments. Ask me how I know!

This time I caught it early and was able to adjust it before I set it on the tumbler. But, I think next time, I will likely snip the transfer tape a little down the bottom before I try to put it on an object that turns and/or tapers like this.

I love how this project came out! I didn’t make it permanent, so I used removeable vinyl. I thought he might want to take it off. But he said he’s taking it to work tomorrow.

Love that nosey man!! 🥰

So, let me just take this moment to say Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there…and to all the stepdads out there that are making it happen for the children that need it most-much love! Too bad you all come in second place, but…😉

How did you celebrate the fathers in your life today? Leave a note in the comments and share!
