A Beautiful Ending…And A Tough Act To Follow

Eventually, all good things must come to an end.

As I said before, I’m going to have to get a new bucket list!

We are days away from welcoming a brand new year. But, I had way too much fun in 2022! So much so that I’m almost afraid to turn the page. However, turn the page I must.

But, not without one more surprise to share…

It’s like this year would not leave without allowing me to cross one more thing off on my bucket list!

Y’all. I got to meet one of the first artists I wanted to meet when I first began this journey in 2020! 🥰

Usually, living in Delaware, I have to admire my favorite artists from afar. But, not this time!

Do you know who that is?

It’s Marie of Maiden September!

Marie is a calligrapher, currently living in Delaware.

When I first joined the Calligraphers of Color, I noticed that one of the admins of the group (Marie) happened to live in Delaware…You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to find people in this type of niche that speak lettering or calligraphy geek in Delaware. I started following her and she seemed pretty cool online. In fact, she seemed fabulous! I thought, it might be awesome to meet her some day. I actually put it on my Bucket List.

It wasn’t too far-fetched an idea because Delaware is so small…At the same time, I began to think, ‘I really don’t get out much.’ Maybe it was one of those high and lofty ideas you get sometimes that you think is possible, but maybe not probable.

Also…I mean, it’s Maiden September y’all! You ever seen her calligraphy? It’s as gorgeous as she is in real life! 😍

Then, when we both had our first live event on the same day and found out that we both lived about five minutes away from Delaware’s premiere mall, we were both like, “What?!!”

We just met for the first time near our mall…and I was right about her…She’s as cool as she looks! And, so down-to-earth! She’s a wealth of knowledge and she’d probably be a great biz coach too…I’ve already added some new goals to my list for 2023 for things I want to learn after one talk with her.

We talked shop, goals, compared notes on courses we are enrolled in, ordered food like there was no tomorrow and just had a good time!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her! And, little did I know, it was on her bucket list to begin meeting other calligraphers too.

Isn’t it fitting that live community takes the stage after the events of 2020? And that’s coming from a diehard introvert, y’all (Wait. Did I say that? Like…what is this world coming to???).

Yes, 2022 has been too much fun! So, much more peaceful than the years before it too. 😌 I truly couldn’t have asked for a better year.

As I prepare to close the books on it, I’m sure 2023 will be just as blessed. And, maybe I’ll even get my Issa Rae on.

That would be nice. But, this one right here is going to be a tough act to follow! ❤️

Happy New Year! 🥳
